Swim Meet 101
This tab to help parents who are new to swimming. It includes all of the information you need to be ready for a swim meet!!
SIGNING UP FOR A MEET
You will be notified through your Swimtopia App when it is time to sign up for a meet. Once you receive that notification, log into your app to sign up or log into the website and click on "Sign Up Calendar" under the "Meets and Events" tab. Find the correct meet and click the green meet entry button. You simply follow the instructions from there!
MEET DAY
On meet day, your Swimtopia App will be updated with your child's events. If it is a home meet, it will also show heats and lanes. This gives you a good idea of what your child's meet will look like, but it isn't set in stone as we always send a heat/lane update for certain events that we decide to combine to save time.
You need to arrive NO LATER than one hour before the meet is scheduled to start. If this is your first time, please arrive even earlier. Once at a home meet, you can purchase a heat sheet ($2). In order for your child to remember what they are swimming, you will write their event, heat, and lane numbers with a sharpie on their arm. Also make sure they know who is in their relays! Get help from a veteran family or older athlete. They will show you how to mark arms. Please also write your child's name in large letters on their shoulder.
All athletes are to sit on the peninsula during the meet. Unless volunteering, parents are to sit on the outside of the fence. The meet will last close to four hours.
WHAT TO BRING
Suit, Cap, Goggles, Towels, Sweats (if it's cold), Sharpie, lawn chairs (for spectators), plenty of food and drinks for swimmer (limited concessions are available), sun screen.
VOLUNTEERING?
Make sure that you take the responsibility to report for your position ON TIME. There are too many things we must attend to to have to look for our volunteers. Report to the bathhouse if you don't know what you should be doing or where you should be.
RESULTS
Results are usually ready by the next morning and will be posted with the meet on the online calendar. Please do not be surprised or disappointed if your child happens to get disqualified. This is completely normal - especially for beginners. The coaches will be spending the season helping make strokes legal - sometimes - especially with the breaststroke and the butterfly, this takes a while. Ribbons will be made for top finishers. They will be available a day or two after the meet and can be picked up at practice.
