SEASON INFO - FINALLY!!

Hello Families!!

PLEASE READ THIS IN ITS ENTIRETY! Call or text Diane Gould at 816-721-7701 with questions AFTER you have read to the end. 😊 Savannah Swim Team will begin its 2020 INTRAMURAL season on June 15th. This season will look VERY differently than our regular seasons in several ways.

  • 1.Special Rules for 2020
  • In order to limit locker room use, swimmers need to arrive in and leave in their suit. We will use one door to enter and one door to exit the deck.
  • All swimmers must bring their own water bottle, goggles, and towels. We will NOT be able to loan or share any equipment this year.
  • Parents are NOT to sit anywhere on the east side of the pool during practice. If staying, please sit on the west side or in the concession stand area. We ask that you not participate in any way with swim practice. If you have any concerns with practice, please speak with a member of the board. Board member(s) are always at practice and are happy to help!! As usual, non-team siblings are not allowed to swim or be near the pool.

ALL BEGINNERS and 6Us:

As you can see from the practice schedule chart below, 6Us will be swimming ½ hour sessions. We are adopting this structure to comply with distancing recommendations. Much effort will go to keep siblings w 6Us practicing on the same days. Please see the note from our coaches below regarding a pre-season beginners evaluation process that is taking place on June 8th. The sign up for an evaluation spot is at https://savannahswimteam.swimtopia.com/swim_meets. Click on “Job Sign up”. ALL 6Us need to be evaluated. Older beginners can be evaluated as well if you are not sure if they are ready to swim on the team this year. You will be notified of your 6U/s practice group on June 9.

NOTE FROM COACHES

2020 Swim Evaluation

Savannah Swim Team has been a place where many levels of swimmers love to learn and grow in their swimming abilities. With the recent events of COVID19, we are having to put special measures to the season to make sure we keep the swimmers, staff, and community healthy. In years past our coaching staff has been able to provide hands on instructions for our swimmers. Unfortunately, this year we will not be able to provide the same type of instructions since we will be maintaining our social distance. With that said, we would like all swimmers to be able to get in the water with confidence and to swim without assistance from a coach/staff member. You may not know for sure how your swimmer will be, so we are offering swim evaluations before the season begins. This will give an opportunity for you swimmer to be screened by the staff and placed in the proper group, or the staff may suggest waiting till next season. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to our coaching staff.

  • 2.Practice Structure

The team currently has 137 athletes. To minimize proximity with others, sessions will be divided – allowing swimmers 2-3 sessions per week. Practices will be organized as follows:

  • 3.Registration, payments, caps, suits, and shirts

Registration payment MUST be taken care of at or before your first practice. Checks can be mailed to Diane Gould, 1305 West Price Ave, Savannah. All caps and online shirt orders need to be picked up at your first practice. In addition, all swimmers must submit a completed COVID waiver (attached) . No child can practice until these items are handled. If you decide you would like to order more shirts before May 28th, text Diane.  After that date, you can visit The Sports Page on the square. They will be happy to help you. This year our shirt was designed by Braxton Jones - age 8 (design attached).

Due to our season being an “intramural” experience this year, we have decided to not offer team suits. If you ordered and already paid for one, we will refund you at your first practice. If you need a suit, you can order one at www.swimoutlet.com. Please just make sure all girls have a one-piece. We recommend jammers for boys.

  • 4.Meets

Most of the teams in our conference are not even having teams this year. Regardless, we will NOT be hosting or attending any out of town meets. You can cancel all meets you have put on your calendar. Our coaches are working on how to implement fun competition into the season, but that competition will be among Savannah swimmers only. We are working out the details now and will release that information when available.

  • 5.Year End Celebration

The details of our year-end celebration will be worked out as the season progresses due to COVID uncertainties. Look for updates.

  • 6.Sponsorships

Sponsorship forms and checks can be mailed to the address on our online form or brought to your first practice. Please review the sponsor list at the bottom of this communication to make certain that we have not omitted or misspelled any of our sponsors (as they will be printed on our shirts). If you see an error or have a sponsor who is not listed, please contact Diane ASAP.  Remember – It is requested that ALL families procure at least one sponsor. Please see www.savannahswimteam.swimtopia.com for sponsor forms and instructions. We can add sponsors through May 28th.
